I think I’m finally understanding what is behind the momentum to stand up behind epstein as opposed to any of the current horrific, unexceptable, violent acts of this current regime.
It seems as if the majority of those folks shouting for the release either never believed the serial raping, diffused by the benign term ‘trafficking’ as if sitting in a car on a stopped freeway during rush hour, actually occurred; or were sure men ‘buying’ the bodies of womyn & girls is “sex work” and not serial rape beginning during childhood.
I heard a prominent womon talk today, with the appropriate level of pure outrage & horror & determination to end this violence of exploiting children by the wealthiest of men.
But what gave me pause was her shock. Where has she been all her life to not know that such horrific abuse has been happening since men began waging war – & not ‘just’ the war against females, but all wars?
Where does she live that she doesn’t have to pass by the greyhound station late at night or the impoverished neighborhoods with those young girls attempting to walk let alone stay upright in spike heels & shortest mini-skirts?
It’s not like the sexual abuse and the power men & boys get from being part of the abuser class is or ever has been a secret.
Womyn & girls have been telling the stories of the depths of depravity & violence that those males are willing to commit.
How is it that there are womyn who still have managed to ignore, silence, simply not hear those voices.
The voices of enslaved womyn & girls, of those forced into “Indian schools”, of those in servitude, the church, mental institutions, prisons, around military bases and ‘man camps, on and on.
Did we really need the release of the family’s trove of emails & files to finally believe the realities of sexusl exploitation? But the bigger question is will this undeniable evidence be enough to bring out the level of decency & humanity needed for us to prioritize working to end all forms of male violence over working for making money?
