Before Keith Porter & now Renee Good, 32 people died by the hands of ICE.
I looked at the list, expecting to see young men’s names & ages. Most gang members are teenagers, like those bedazzled & recruited into the military, many with the dream of escaping poverty.
The youngest was 27; the oldest 75 with most being in their 40’s.Some had criminal records (less than 30%), from food stamps fraud to pedophilia. Some convicted, completed their jail time.
Some had lived in the u.s. for over 40 years; others had come as children and are no longer protected by DACA; others had been here 2 or 3 years.
Some had green cards; some were citizens; some were seeking asylum.
Some had families here. Others had mothers back home, hoping their children were having a better, safer, more secure lifr.
All.of them died in ICE custody.
Thirty-two human beings. Dead.
There countries of origin were from Cuba, China, Mexico, Vietnam, Honduras, Colombia, El Salvador, Haiti, Jordan, Guatemala, Phillipines, Eritrea, Nicaragua,Bulgaria, Ethiopia, Ukraine, Dominican Republic, Pakistan.
only under Bush’s reign, the first year after the creation of ICE as a domestic reaction to a handful of men flying planes into the twin towers, killing 2000.
Of course, the reaction overseas was the killing of millions of Iraqis, who knows how many Afghans, and launching the beginning of endless war & occupation.
The Guardian says their name and some of their stories.
