NIGERIA: MY FIRST WEEK

I have not seen much of Nigeria, or Lagos, since I’ve been here these past two days. As we did our adjusting from our 10 hour flight and acclimating to the heat and humidity – the former being not so bad but the later being intense – we only did short, brief walks around our Lagos accommodations, out for maybe five blocks to get food and water mostly plus anti-maleria pills.

Returning my grandson to his football academy was interesting at very best. The tiny town where the academy is located about 3 hours north of Lagos, was easy to explore in an hour or so. The academy itself is brand new and opulent, especially in contrast to most of the town’s residents, housing and roads somewhat jammed with people, motor bikes and side cars, as the campus stretches grandly over many acres with sidewalks, modern and new buildings, a stadium and 2 story hotel.

All the future footballers are housed on the campus in single story dwellings that face several pitches organized by age, as are the football teams. The guys get all their meals cooked for them but are responsible for cleaning their rooms and washing their own clothes.

I will continue this story on my blog here whenever I get time and wifi to connect my laptop.

In the meantime, here are some pics of the countryside on the way from Lagos, during sunrise, to the Academy, during sunset and a few stretches in between. (to be posted later)
