I love entering New Mexico first thing in the a.m. Two of my favorite rest stops are at either end of New Mexico. One is on the mountain just before Las Cruces on the east end of the state; the other is just across the border into Arizona on the western part of Arizona.
I spent many hours resting at both of these places and engaging in some of the most fascinating conversations with locals who are the clean-up and maintanence crew, as well as tourists, mostly snow-birders invading from the north during the winer.
This morning I woke to this beauty as I walked around the huge new rest stop on I10. It’s so peaceful and quiet, I wish I could stay longer than just to make a cup of coffee, cut up some fruit, organize my road snacks and hit the road.
Today I’m working on getting to Arizona asap to fill up with veggie oil. I’m pretty sure I’ll make it without having to switch to diesel. Plus I’m looking forward to connecting with sistars in Tucson and Phoenix.
